Lourensford MTB Classic - 3 Oct: One of the most hilly races in SA, but not to tough for Matie CM Muller who claimed the victory!! Oudtshoorn 3day MTB - 25-27 Sept: As always the Maties put up a good showing at this event. Christo Swartz won the first stage and Erik Kleinhans the last, but due to bad luck on for both on day two they lost the chance to win overall. 
Karoo2coast - 20 Sept: Erik Kleinhans improved on his 3rd position from 2008 to finish 2nd behind Kevin Evans. Arno Viljoen also had a very strong ride and finished 4th. CM Muller 5th. Christo Swartz 6th. Gravel Travel & Potberg MTB - 15/22Aug: Erik Kleinhans won both the Gravel Travel and the Potberg MTB with Johnny Kritzinger finishing second on both occasions! Heletjè van Staden managed to win the Potberg and the De Grendel MTB races! Die Burger Bergfietsuitdaging - 1 Aug: The Maties dominated their home MTB race with Johnny Kritzinger , Arno Viljoen, Erik Kleinhans and Carl Pasio taking the first four positions in the men's race! Heletjè van Staden also did a fantastic job to finish 2nd in the ladies race! 
SA Student Champs, Port Elizabeth - 28 June-1 July: After a few near misses in the last few years the GT Maties "at last" managed to win the men's category in the 5-stage road event of the Student Champs! Arno Viljoen won both the MTB and Road events at this very important event for all University cyclist. Bianca Grotepass claimed victory in the womens mtb event with her sister, Debi Grotepass, placing 3rd in the womens road tour. CONGATULATIONS to all Maties who took part!!! 
African Continental XCO Champs - 11 July: Heletjè van Staden was once again on the top of her game placing 2nd in the ladies category and first in the U23 category!! Christo Swartz also had an impresive ride placing 6th in the U23 mens category. National XCO Series #5 Pretoria - 23 June: Heletjè van Staden and Janneke Leask finished 1st and 2nd in the U23 ladies category with Janneke winning the overall series! Johnny Kritzinger placed 7th in the pro-elite men's category. 
AMArider 100-Miler 20 May: Erik Kleinhans won this very tough race in terrible weather conditions in 6h51min! The Maties men's team (Erik Kleinhans; CM Muller; Johnny Kritzinger; Petrus Malherbe) also won the team competition with Jan Scannel and CM Muller finishing 4th and 5th respectively!

Tru-Cape MTB - 9 May: Lorraine Geldenhuys won the ladies category of this famous Elgin race while finished 5th in the men's category. SA XC Champs: 14 March: Erik Kleinhans claimed the SA Elite Cross Country titel! He was backed up by Janneke Leask who won the U23 ladies titel and Frans Grotepass who won the U14 titel! 
Giro del Capo and PnP Argus Cycle Tour - 4-8 March: The GT SUSPI Maties Cycling team survived and enjoyed yet another Giro del Capo Challenge. Well done on the following Maties!: Erik Kleinhans; Andrew Smith; CM Muller; Carl Pasio; Chris Wolhuter; Arno Viljoen (Nam); Christo Swartz (Nam); and Jan Hendrik Verdoes (Nam). 
Maties in front at the Sani2C! - 26-28 Feb: Heletjè van Staden and Janneke Leask won 2 stages and the overall ladies category in the famous Sani2c stage race! A fantastic achievement for the two Matie students! Arno Viljoen also had a great race winning the final stage with partner Renay Groustra. National XC round 2 Mankele - 7 Feb: Heletjè van Staden won the U23 category and finished second Pro-Elite in the second round of the National XC series. Johnny Kritzinger placed 9th in the pro-elite mens category after a very good 3rd in the first round. 
Stellenbosch Medallion League race - 7 Feb: Carl Pasio was once again in the thick of the action this time in a breakaway of 90km. Him and breakaway companion Luthando Kaka were caught in the final kilometer and it was so close to being our first League race win of the year. Bouchaert-Soenen Paarl League race - 24 Jan: Carl Pasio claimed a very good 5th position in the second League race of the year! And on the same day Arno Viljoen won the MTB event with Craig Boyes placing 6th. National Marathon #1 Barberton - 24 Jan: Johnny Kritzinger and Heletjè van Staden had two fantastic races to claim 6th and 4th position respectively against the countries top mountain bikers! Wiesenhof 24hr - 17 Jan: The second MTB race of the season claimed the Club's first victory of the year with Jan Scannell winning the solo men's category! Lorraine Geldenhuys fought hard to defend her title but eventually had to settle for a very respectable 2nd in the ladies solo category. The Maties claimed another victory in the 3-hour event with youngster Craig Boyes finishing with a new record of 8-laps! 
National XC Cup #1 - 10 Jan: The Maties kicked of the yer with two fantastic podium positions in their back yard! Johnny Kritzinger (Schwinn) finished 3rd in the Pro-Elite category (2nd Elite) behind Burry Stander. Bianca Grotepass finished 3rd in the U23 ladies category in her first National XC event! Welcome to 2009: The New Year kicks off with the first round of the National XC Cup in Jonkershoek on 10/11 January with a few Maties who will line up at the start. Good luck to all participating! We already have a few membership applications and it's great to see some more experienced and ex-Maties joining up. To join up for the new year go to register on the top menu. Coronation Double Century - 22 Nov: The GT MATIES TEAM delivered an fantastic performance to claim fifth place in the 205km Team Time Trial held in Swellendam! With some big SA riders in the star packed teams, it was always going to be difficult for the Maties to sneak onto the podium, but only 6min separated them from the Neotel team in third. Well done to the team and the back-up crew! African Chapionships - 7-9 Nov: Old Matie club member Dan Craven had the ride of his life to win the African Road Championships. He also placed third in the Elite men's Time Trial at the event which took place in Morocco. Congrats to our African Champ! To Hell and Back - 8-9 Nov: Erik Kleinhans finished 4th overall in the Animal To Hell and Back behind Kevin Evans. After missing the podium on day one he however did manage to get his legs back late on the second day to claim the stage win! 
Buffet Olives MTB - 2 Nov: Johnny Kritzinger (Team Schwinn) showed off his climbing legs by winning the extremely hilly race on the slopes of the Du Toits Kloof Mountain. Junior rider Dominic Calitz finished second with Erik Kleinhans (GT Mr Price) placing 3rd and 2nd in the Open category. Fellow Matie student and Olympian triathlete Mari Rabie won the 45-km ladies race. Bonnievale MTB Bonanza - 1 Nov: Erik Kleinhans and Johnny Kritzinger upped the pace from the start and rode away from everyone at the Bonnievale Bonanza to finish together in 1st and 2nd place! The fantastic route took the riders through fruit and grape orchards, plenty of jeeptrack, hills and even a wine cellar on their 60km journey. Cederberg Escape - 24-26 Oct: Five Matie mountain bikers took on the challenge of the tough 3day MTB race. Erik Kleinhans (GT Mr Price) managed to finish second overall behind World Champion Christof Sauser who enjoyed the summer training weather. CM Muller (M3) lost time with a puncture on day two but also managed a very good 6th overall. Lorraine Geldenhuys and Janine Smolders represented the Matie ladies and gained valuable experience and strength. Porcupine Ridge MTB - 19 Oct: The Matie riders continued their great MTB winter by taking first and second spot at the Porcupine Ridge MTB in ranschoek. Arno Viljoen (Garmin DCM) and GT Matie rider, Christo Swartz, set the pace from early in the race and filled the top two spots on the podium! 
Seweweekspoort MTB - 18 Oct: Erik Kleinhans (GT Mr Price) and CM Muller (M3) finished in 5th and 6th position respectively at the fast growing 7weekspoort race. MTN duo, Kevin Evans and David George, made the racing hard and claimed first and second. Engen Dynamics - 11 Oct: Carl Pasio continued his good form on the road bike by taking 5th postion in the Engen Dynamics road race in Wellington. A group of four riders managed to stay clear of the bunch with Carl winning the sprint. Lourensford MTB - 4 Oct: The Maties performed well in one of the Western Cape's biggest MTB races. Erik Kleinhans and CM Muller finished together in 4th and 5th position behind Red Mongoose rider, Renay Groustra. Bianca Grotepass won the shorter version of the race with Janine Smolders finishing 4th! Medsheme Tour de Vino - 5 Oct: After some confusion with the route, Carl Pasio made the final selection group of 11 riders and finished inside the top ten with 3 of SA's top Neotel racers filling the podium. Maxxis MTB marathon - 26-28 Sept: Janine Smolders claimed her first victory in her young cycling career by winning the Maxxis MTB half-marathon, also claiming all 3 stages along the way. Erik Kleinhans managed to win both the 1st and 3rd stage in the full-marathon, but unfortunately punctured on day two losing his overall lead in the tour. Karoo2Coast - 21 Sept: Erik Kleinhans achieved his first podium position on a major SA MTB race with his 3rd place finish in the 100km Karoo2Coast going between Uniondale and Knysna. Arno Viljoen finished in 7th place. 
Cape Kidney League - 21 Sept: A breakaway of two riders stayed away untill the finish but Maties Carl Pasio and Christo Swartz was still committed with them taking very good 5th and 9th positions respectively at the end. Nelsons Creek 3day Challenge - 12-14 Sept: Erik Kleinhans won the first stage against a strong field and after a tough second day managed to hold on to a good third place overall! Lorraine Geldenhuys and Janine Smolders finished together in 3rd place on the Saturday 55km race and Renaldo Bosch 3rd in the sub vets on Sunday. Medihelp Zevenwacht MTB - 13 Sept: The Maties filled the podium but the win unfortunately just eluding them with Christo Swartz , Chris Wolhuter and Jan Hendrik Verdoes finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
Kumba Iron Ore Classic - 6 Sept: Ashleigh Moolman impressed all at this event taking second place in the ladies event! Alex Milner is also slowly getting back into some great form as shown in Upington were he placed 11th. Lorraine Geldenhuys won the Elite category with Janine Smolders taking second place! And lastly Erik Kleinhans and Carl Pasio finished 7th and 8th in the very spectator friendly kermesse the afternoon. Gravel Travel MTB - 30 Aug: Erik Kleinhans and CM Muller kept the Team name high in the stormy weather this past weekend at the Wellington Gravel Travel MTB race. Unfortunately the win eluded them with Erik finishing in second and CM in fourth in this well attanded race of about 1000 participants. Gravity Festival Adventure Race - 16 Aug: Janine Smolders and Eugene Loubser took on the very tough adventure race in Kleinmond and finished fourth in the mixed category after a 12km run/hike in the mountain, 15km mtb, 4km white water paddle and another 3km run. Stellenbosch MTB Challenge - 2 August: The best South African riders lined up for our home MTB race which also formed the SA Marathon Champs. Johnny Kritzinger (Team Schwinn) finished in a very good 9th position with Carl Pasio finishing in 19th. The girls also did not dissapoint with Bianca Grotepass winning the open category in the half marathon and Janine Smolders finishing in third. Droomers Nissan Paarl MTB - 26 July: A tough climbing race with Matie Christo Swartz pushing the pace, but unfortunetly had a serious tumble close to the end and had to settle for 7th with Harry Orr finishing in sixth. PPA Hillclimb #2 - 26 July: Renaldo Bosch finished fifth in the second PPA Hillclimb up the Old Helshoogte Pass. RMB Wolseley MTB - 19 July: Johnny Kritzinger (Team Schwinn) won the 65km Wolseley race with Erik Kleinhans (GT Mr.Price) second. In the 46km ladies devision Lorraine Geldenhuys won with Janine Smolders finishing second. Well done guys and girls! Knysna Xterra - 10 July: Our rider of the month does it again! When is he going to stop making so much news!? Carl Pasio gave the hard core Xterra athletes a good go to finish 3rd overall. Knysna Cycle Tour: Carl Pasio kept the Matie name high at the Knysna Cycle Tour delivering the goods after a great leadout by teamates Chris Wolhuter and Christo Swarts to finish second behind David George! A great result by our team getting into super form for the rest of the year! Petzl Adventure Night Race - Knysna: Two Matie teams were beaten into second place at the Adventure Nights race in Knysna on Monday 7 July. CM Muller and Lorraine Geldenhuys finished second in the mixed category behind adventure racing pro's, Martin Dreyer and Jeanie Bomford. Chris Wolhuter and Carl Pasio redeamed themselves after getting lost in Jonkershoek by taking second spot in the men's devision! Erik and Janine is still looking for the finish...
